Thripinae

Subfamily information

Found worldwide, the species in this large group exhibit a wide range of biologies, with many breeding in flowers, but with others breeding on leaves, a large number associated only with Poaceae, a few feeding on mosses, and a very few obligate predators. This subfamily as treated here is largely equivalent to the family Thripidae as treated by Bhatti (2006) that included two subfamilies: Thripinae and Dendrothripoidinae Bhatti, 2006:361 [for Dendrothripoides]. The Thripinae is probably polyphyletic (Buckman et al., 2013), and Bhatti (2006) recognised the following two small families:
