For nearly 50 years, Dr Richard zur Strassen maintained hand-written files at the Forschunginstitut Senckenberg, Frankfurt, with information about Thysanoptera. One of these files listed species for which he had seen specimens or a published record from each country around the world. However, no references were included to support the inclusion of any name.
Through the courtesy of Andrea Hastenpflug-Vesmanis and Damir Kovac, of the Entomology Department at Frankfurt, details from these files are given here for some countries.
These files were working documents, not finished scholarly manuscripts, and the records will require extensive verification. They are presented here in the hope that they will help stimulate further work, and that the many years of Dr zur Strassen’s industry are not lost in archives.
