Heterothrips Hood, 1908: 361. Type species Heterothrips arisaemae Hood, 1908, by monotypy.
Phyllothrips Buffa, 1908: 123. Type species Phyllothrips pilosus Buffa, 1908, by monotypy.
Phyllothripsiolus Strand, 1912: 287. Replacement name for Phyllothrips Buffa not Phyllothrips Hood.
Heterothrips (Protemnothrips) Hood, 1937: 258. Type species Heterothrips (Protemnothrips) miconiae Hood 1937, by monotypy.
Biology and Distribution
The species of this genus are found only in the New World, mainly in the Neotropics, and so far as is known they all breed in flowers. A substantial number of species have been taken from the flowers of various Malpighiaceae.
